  1. An opening bid of 1 NT requires a balanced
  2. distribution*, no five card major, HCPC 12 to 14**,
  3. and 2 QT or more.

  5. A hand with HCPC 11 and 2 1/2 QT or HCPC 13
  6. and 1 1/2 QT can be opened with a 1 NT bid if the
  7. hand is balanced.  The computer does not bid 1NT with
  8. 12 points or less if it is the only team vulnerable.

  10. *With a strong five card minor,  consider making a
  11. one bid in the minor rather than 1NT.

  13. **The computer occasionally opens 1 NT with more
  14. than 14 points.  It does so if the hand has a
  15. balanced distribution, no five card major, and no
  16. minor with a stopper.
